Definition
A set structure where you progressively increase weight while decreasing reps (ascending), or vice versa (descending), or both (triangle). Math class meets the weight room.
Example Usage
We did pyramid sets on bench press, starting at 135 for 12 reps and ending at 225 for 3, at which point my soul left my body.
Origin
Classic bodybuilding methodology from the mid-20th century
Fun Fact
Reverse pyramid training (starting heavy) is favored by many because you tackle the hardest weight when you're freshest, rather than when you're already destroyed.
