Definition
A Navy and Coast Guard tradition where newly promoted officers host a party to celebrate their advancement, traditionally 'wetting down' their new rank insignia with alcohol. An excuse for a party with historical roots.

You're all invited to my wetting down at the O-Club Friday night to celebrate making lieutenant commander.

Fun Fact
In earlier times, the promoted officer was expected to provide drinks equivalent in cost to a month's pay increase from the promotion.
