Definition
An SME—someone with deep knowledge in a specific field who consultants or course designers collaborate with for content accuracy. It's a fancy title for "the person who actually knows what they're talking about" while others design around them.
Example Usage
The instructional design team hired a subject matter expert in epidemiology after their first course attempt was hilariously inaccurate.
Origin
Business and training terminology adopted by educational technology in the late 20th century
Fun Fact
