Definition
The exercise intensity at which lactate begins accumulating in your blood faster than your body can clear it. The invisible line between 'I can do this all day' and 'I need to stop immediately.'
Example Usage
Training just below my lactate threshold has improved my endurance, though it still feels like my legs are staging a protest.
Origin
Identified in exercise physiology research in the 1960s-70s as scientists studied metabolism during exercise
Fun Fact
Elite marathon runners can sustain efforts at 85-90% of their lactate threshold for over two hours, while mere mortals hit it climbing stairs.
