Definition
A medication that reduces fever, because 'fever reducer' apparently lacks pharmaceutical gravitas. It's how we describe Tylenol when we want to sound like we know what we're doing.
Example Usage
Acetaminophen was administered as an antipyretic to bring down the patient's temperature of 102.5°F.
Origin
From Greek 'anti' (against) + 'pyretos' (fever), from 'pyr' (fire)
Fun Fact
Despite being among the most commonly used medications, the exact mechanism of how antipyretics like acetaminophen reduce fever wasn't fully understood until recent decades.
