Definition
A voting method where members shout 'aye' or 'no' and the presiding officer judges which side is louder, essentially determining law by volume. It's faster than recorded votes and conveniently obscures individual positions.
Example Usage
They passed the controversial measure by voice vote at 11 p.m., ensuring no member would have their position on record for campaign ads.
Origin
Ancient parliamentary practice predating recorded voting systems
Fun Fact
Voice votes can be challenged by requesting a recorded vote, but this requires a certain number of supporters to stand, creating the parliamentary equivalent of 'pics or it didn't happen.'
