troop

Definition

A small cavalry or armored unit commanded by a captain, roughly equivalent to an infantry platoon. Also used collectively to describe any gathering of soldiers, though civilians insist on using it incorrectly as a singular noun for one soldier. Military folks cringe every time someone says "a troop" when they mean "a service member."

Example Usage

The reconnaissance troop was ordered to scout the ridge before the main battalion advanced.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle — a drone operated remotely without a pilot on board. It is a flying robot that gathers intelligence, delivers ordnance, and never complains about long hours or bad weather. The pilot sits in an air-conditioned trailer and still somehow complains about the commute.

The military act of relentlessly pounding a target with artillery shells, bombs, or missiles until it ceases to exist as originally structured. It's also used metaphorically for any overwhelming assault, whether of emails, questions, or particles in physics. When 'a lot' just doesn't capture the sheer volume of destructive force involved.
