question time

Beginner 🏛️ Government / Politics

Definition

A parliamentary session where legislators grill government ministers with prepared queries, theoretically for accountability but often for theatrical point-scoring. It's part oversight hearing, part performance art.

Example Usage

During question time, the opposition asked why the infrastructure project was three years late, and the minister responded with five minutes of creative blame distribution.

Origin

British parliamentary tradition formalized in the 19th century

Fun Fact

Prime Minister's Questions in the UK is only 30 minutes weekly but generates more political drama than most Netflix series, with insults so cutting they have to be translated for diplomatic cables.
