Definition
A defensive position that can deliver fire in all directions, typically a fortified location with overlapping fields of fire. Named after the multi-barrel pistol, because sometimes you need to shoot everybody around you simultaneously.
Example Usage
Set up the squad as a pepperbox formation—we don't know which direction the attack will come from.
Origin
Named after the pepperbox revolver with multiple barrels arranged in a circle
Fun Fact
The original pepperbox pistols were notoriously inaccurate, which makes their adoption as a term for deliberate defensive positioning somewhat ironic.
