microcycle

Advanced ⚽ Sports / Fitness

Definition

The smallest division in periodized training, typically lasting one week. Where the rubber meets the road and your carefully planned macrocycle becomes Tuesday's actual workout.

Example Usage

This microcycle has me squatting three times, which seemed reasonable when I planned it but feels personal now.

Origin

From periodization theory; Greek 'mikros' meaning small, referring to short training blocks

Fun Fact

Most microcycles follow a 7-day structure simply because humans invented weeks, not because muscles prefer a specific timeline.
