Definition
A training phase lasting several weeks to a few months within a periodized program, typically focused on a specific goal. The middle child of training blocks that nobody talks about but does most of the work.
Example Usage
This mesocycle focuses on hypertrophy, which means I'll spend six weeks eating everything and pretending the mirror loves me.
Origin
Part of periodization theory developed by Soviet sports scientists; from Greek 'mesos' meaning middle
Fun Fact
A typical mesocycle lasts 3-6 weeks because that's roughly how long it takes for your body to adapt to a training stimulus before you need to change things up.
