Definition

Landing Zone — a designated area where helicopters or aircraft can land. It is essentially a parking spot with much higher stakes and significantly more rotor wash. Reserving one does not involve a parking meter but may involve suppressive fire.

"The LZ is hot, which in military terms means people are shooting at it, not that it's a trendy new nightclub. Though the light show is comparable."

The military act of relentlessly pounding a target with artillery shells, bombs, or missiles until it ceases to exist as originally structured. It's also used metaphorically for any overwhelming assault, whether of emails, questions, or particles in physics. When 'a lot' just doesn't capture the sheer volume of destructive force involved.
