Definition
A period in the learning process where progress appears to stall despite continued effort, before eventual advancement. It's that frustrating phase where practicing more seems to accomplish nothing, testing every student's persistence.
Example Usage
After weeks on a learning plateau in calculus, unable to grasp derivatives despite hours of practice, the concept suddenly clicked during a random shower thought.
Origin
From psychological learning theory, particularly behaviorist studies of skill acquisition
Fun Fact
Learning plateaus are actually when the brain is consolidating information in the backgroundโyou're learning even when it feels like you're not, which is cold comfort during the plateau itself.
