Definition
The constitutional process of formally charging a public official (usually the president) with misconduct, essentially a political indictment. Contrary to popular belief, impeachment doesn't mean removal from office โ it's just the accusation phase, like being charged versus convicted. Think of it as democracy's way of saying "we need to talk about your behavior."
Example Usage
The House voted to impeach the president on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
