Definition
General Physical Preparedness—the development of broad fitness attributes and work capacity that support specific training. It's the vegetables of your training diet: unsexy, often ignored, but probably what you actually need.
Example Usage
My coach added GPP work to my program, which is apparently code for 'do boring stuff like sled pushes and carries because your conditioning is embarrassing.'
Origin
Developed in Soviet sports training methodology in the mid-20th century
Fun Fact
GPP is the foundation of the Russian training pyramid, which explains why Eastern European athletes often display absurd work capacity while Western athletes are still googling what GPP means.
