Goldilocks syllabus

Intermediate 🎓 Education / Academia

Definition

A course syllabus that achieves the perfect balance—comprehensive enough to cover institutional requirements and set clear expectations, but not so detailed that students never read it or find loopholes. Just right is remarkably difficult to achieve.

Example Usage

After five revisions, I think I finally have a Goldilocks syllabus that students actually read.

Origin

Faculty teaching workshops, modern pedagogical humor

Fun Fact

Research shows the average college syllabus has grown from 2-3 pages in the 1970s to 10-15 pages today, mostly due to liability concerns.
