Face Time

Definition

The art of being physically present in the office so management can see you existing, regardless of whether you're accomplishing anything. Not to be confused with Apple's FaceTime, which at least serves a purpose.

Example Usage

"You really need more face time with the leadership team," advised the mentor, suggesting that proximity to power was more important than, say, doing your job.

When executives leave their corner offices to briefly interact with regular employees, like anthropologists visiting a remote tribe. Often done before layoffs to identify who actually works there.

To ensure everyone has the same (usually minimal) understanding of a situation before proceeding, often because previous meetings accomplished nothing.

The judgmental cousin of 'analytical,' used to describe anything involving assessment or assigning value. Typically deployed by consultants who need to sound more sophisticated than saying 'judgy.' It's the academic way of admitting you're about to reduce something complex into a simple thumbs-up or thumbs-down.
