Definition
Drop Zone—a designated area where paratroopers or supply bundles are dropped from aircraft. A patch of ground where gravity and military planning intersect, hopefully gently.
Example Usage
The DZ is marked with infrared strobes visible only through night vision goggles.
Origin
Airborne operations terminology from World War II when parachute assaults became tactically viable
Fun Fact
A 'bad DZ' in airborne slang can mean anything from 'slightly rocky' to 'we just landed in a minefield,' demonstrating that context really matters.
