Definition
Indigestion or upset stomach, the fancy medical term for that 'I shouldn't have eaten that' feeling. It's Rome's way of reminding you that ancient medical terminology still dominates modern gastroenterology.
Example Usage
The patient's chronic dyspepsia warranted upper endoscopy to rule out peptic ulcer disease.
Origin
From Greek 'dys' (bad, difficult) + 'pepsis' (digestion)
Fun Fact
Functional dyspepsia (indigestion without identifiable cause) affects up to 20% of the population and is one of the most common reasons for gastroenterology referrals despite often having no serious underlying pathology.
