Definition

A release strategy using two identical production environments where you switch traffic from the old version (blue) to the new version (green) instantly. If green catches fire, you switch back to blue faster than anyone can tweet about it.

Origin

Emerged from continuous delivery practices in the 2000s, colors chosen arbitrarily and are definitely not red/green for accessibility reasons

Fun Fact

Some companies use different color schemes (red-black, A-B) because apparently someone finally realized that 8% of men can't distinguish blue from green.
